Presenter Bio: Des Ferris and Richard Robertson

Our first presenter bio for the 2023 Conference, in Sydney, is a double hitter!

Two of our presenters are teaming up for a back-to-back double session. The presenters are Des Ferris and Richard Robertson.

Here are their bio’s:

Desmond Ferris

Topic for Conference:

The concept of triangulation, which can be used for power generation and applied to chi sau.

Started Wing Chun:

Began his Wing Chun career in 1986.

Teaching History:

Taught at and briefly managed Sifu Jim Fung’s Wing Chun Academy until his passing in 2007. He then co-founded the Chi Sau Club with Sifu Mark Spence where he taught until 2017, when he decided to form his own school Harmony Wing Chun.

Noteable Training Experience:

Visited and trained under Sigung Chu Shong Tin many times throughout his Wing Chun career until his passing in 2014; Desmond now trains with his close friend and one of Sigung’s top students Sifu Nima King.

Current Teaching:

Desmond continues to teach at Harmony Wing Chun, and at seminars with Richard Robertson, run by Sifu Nima King at the Martial Man Camp in Thailand.


Richard Robertson

Topic for Conference:

Started Wing Chun:

In 2010 Richard started his Wing Chun journey.

Other Martial Arts Background:

2 years each of Taekwondo, Judo & Japanese Jiu-jitsu

20 years of Aikido

25 years of standing meditation (for health)

Teaching History:

Run’s Wellbeing Wing Chun in Wollongong and assists, along with Desmond Ferris, at seminars run by Sifu Nima King at the Martial Man Camp in Thailand.

Noteable Training Experience:

Richard started his Wing Chun journey at Chi Sau club, and was fortunate to travel to Hong Kong with Mark Spence every few months, training under Sigung Chu Shong Tin. As a Chiropractor & Osteopath he was immediately fascinated with Sigung’s unusual ability, so kept going back for more, accumulating a few hundred hours of tuition. At this time he also started training with Nima King (Mindful Wing Chun) and has met a few times each year for the past decade. He was also fortunate to spend a year in Adelaide training with Tony Psaila during Covid.
